Nikos Karamanos is Professor of Biochemistry & Organic Biochemical Analysis. Graduated in Chemistry (Honors), and PhD (Biochemistry) from the University of Patras. He was trained at pre- and post-doctoral level at the Medical School (Karolinska Institute) in Sweden. He was Vice-Rector of Academic & International Affairs (2014-2020) and Chair of the Department of Chemistry (2007-2011). He introduced the Internal Quality Assurance System, coordinated the University accreditation (2018) and the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study Programs, as well as the issues related with University rankings, internationalization, establishment of a endowed chair, postdoctoral research, etc. He is president of the International Society of Matrix Biology and member of the Board of the Hellenic Society of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (president for three terms). Editor-in-chief / editor in >15 scientific journals and internationally prestigious editions (Springer-Nature & Walter De Gruyter), and guest editor in 20 special issues. Organized as president >15 National and International conferences. He has supervised >80 PhD and master’s theses. He participated as a researcher in >25 International and National research programs, and as evaluator for competitive programs, PhD theses opponent, evaluations of Professors and Researchers in internationally prestigious organizations. He has published >350 articles (peer-review journals), >50 chapters in internationally published books, >500 conference abstracts and >150 invited lectures. His published research has received >21,000 citations with an H-index of 71 (Google Scholar). In 2022 he was declared a Highly Cited Researcher (0.1% of scientists worldwide, Web of Science). It was ranked (AD Scientific index) in position 1 for the University of Patras for the Biochemistry section and received (2022/23/24) the title of Biology & Biochemistry Leader award (Research.com).
