Ioannis A. Venetis is a Vice-rector of the University of Patras and serves as a Professor specializing in “Econometrics” in the Department of Economics of the School of Economics & Business Administration of the University of Patras. He was born and raised in Agios Dimitrios, Athens. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Macedonia (1994) and an MA in Economics (with distinction) from the Department of Economics at the University of Essex, UK. He received the “Leatherland Book Prize Award” for the best final exam score in the Department’s graduate programs in the academic year 1995-1996. He holds a Ph.D. (2000) also from the Department of Economics, University of Essex. For his postgraduate studies he received a scholarship from the Department of Economics of the University of Essex. Also, for his doctoral studies he received – from the University of Essex – a research and teaching scholarship.
He worked as a Post-Doctoral researcher (Research Associate, Post-Doctoral position) at Cardiff Business School 2000 – 2002, in the two-year ESRC-funded research program “Nonlinear Adjustment mechanisms and the asymmetric impact of shocks”, part of the wider ESRC program “Understanding the evolving macroeconomy”. He also worked as a Tier 3 Researcher at the Center for Planning and Economic Research, 2004 – 2005, while since October 2003 he has taught for a number of years as Adjunct Faculty Member of the Hellenic Open University.
He has been working at the Department of Economics of the University of Patras since 2005, continuously offering teaching, research and administrative work. He has written the book “Introduction to Econometrics”, 2021, and edited the translation of scientific books on Econometrics and Mathematics for Economists. He has supervised and supervises a number of PhD theses. He was Head of the Department of Economics, Mai. 2021 – Aug. 2024, Director of the postgraduate program “Applied Economics & Data Analysis” 2015-2017, while for a number of years he was a member of the Coordinating Committee of the postgraduate program and was the Scientific/Academic Manager of the Internship of the Department of Economics.
His research interests are focused on the field of Computational Econometrics and Applied Macroeconomics – with extensions to specific topics of Applied Finance. He has published in renowned international journals including: Macroeconomic Dynamics, Journal of Population Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Economics Letters, Open Economies Review, Journal of Empirical Finance, Energy Economics, Economica, Empirical Economics, International Journal of Forecasting, Economic Modelling, International Review of Economics and Finance.
